They were painted bit I had them chromed but sold my cougar and went with a Mustang before I ever used them. I would like to use the Merc covers, so I'd also appreciate any info on PCV grommets.ħ8 Fairmont, 428 4 speed,Best ET 10.20 1.37 60 ft.I sold a set on EBay last year that I took off of a wrecked 66 model S55 Mercury with a 428. It's getting a '69 390 with "Power by Ford" covers from my Torino GT. So I ran one Merc on the driver's side, and the square blank Ford on the passenger's side! Looked pretty stupid! Still does, but I drove my 352 for the last time Sunday. without the tall covers?ħ8 Fairmont, 428 4 speed,Best ET 10.20 1.37 60 ft.When I put a PCV system in my '65 about 6 years ago, I couldn't use the Merc valve cover, due to the wrong size grommet. I ran double VC gaskets for a while, but got paranoid of cracking a fairly rare set of covers, so I put on the Mercury covers.Has anyone seen a 66 Merc. I had previously used a set of the plain finned 428CJ covers, along with Isky rockers, but the Erson rockers contacted the valve cover on the insides. Does anyone know where I could find one of these smaller grommets? Also, on the Merc covers, did they all have the lightning bolt stamped into the top? The main reason I went with these covers was to clear the Erson roller rockers. Up here in Canada, our 65 FE`s still used the earlier round valve covers with the oil filler tube in the intake, & a road draft tube.On my pentroof Mercury covers, the PCV grommet is a fair bit smaller than the 67 & later version. Some with a road draft tube, some with PCV valve. As for the Fords, all the '65 Fords I have owned have had the short, squared, flat top covers, same as '66 Fords. They are a cool, low budget 427 lookin'alternative. In 64 they still had the round type valve covers.ħ8 Fairmont, 428 4 speed,Best ET 10.20 1.37 60 ft.I have a set that came off an original '66 Merc 390. In 67 they went to the corporate Power By Ford covers. The 65 models were red and the 66s were blue. anybody else care to comment on this.ħ8 Fairmont, 428 4 speed,Best ET 10.20 1.37 60 ft.The tall pentroof Mercury valve covers came on '65 and '66 fullsized Mercurys only. How does this compare to the USA?ħ8 Fairmont, 428 4 speed,Best ET 10.20 1.37 60 ft.ħ8 Fairmont, 428 4 speed,Best ET 10.20 1.37 60 ft.as far as i know these only came on 427 merc engines. Up here in Canada, these covers are not all that common, nor are 66 Merc`s anymore.Does anyone know if all the 66 Mercs had these covers or not? Only certain engines? I know that 66 Fords used a valve cover unique to 66`s only, but how about the Mercury`s? Up here, all the 58-65 332-390`s had the smooth baldy valve covers (without the FORD stamped into them), except the Thunderbirds, 66`s had the low, squared off covers with oil filler & PCV, & the 67-76 had the "Powered by Ford" valve covers, with the later trucks having a different script. Some guy was asking about the tall Mercury scripted pentroof valve covers that I have on my engine.I told them that they came on 66 full sized Merc`s,he asked if all 66 Merc FE`s came with these covers, & I said I don`t know. I had my 428 Fairmont out at the track this past weekend for the first time this year,(rained out on SAt., 3rd round redlite on Sun.).
